Prefab House with BIPV/T

The objective of this project was to examine the integration of a prototype hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) solar system into an energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and technologically advanced prefabricated housing unit. The building module was based on the design of the PreFab Eco Smart House, a project of a previous research project. The study was performed in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Naples "Federico II” and focused on the energy production potential of the active solar system, in relation to the energy requirements of the residential unit, before and after the building integration of the system. For the energy and economic evaluation of the proposed unit, an investigation was developed in a TRNSYS environment, in Mediterranean and Semi-Continental climatic conditions. The simulation results showed that the proposed configuration leads to primary energy savings of up to 548% for Larnaca, Cyprus and up to 180% for Bolzano, Italy, while the payback period of the system ranges from 6 to 9 years respectively.
